The goal of SUMMECH is to provide affordable housing, to promote home ownership, and to encourage economic development in the Mechanicsville community for present and future residents. These efforts focus on redeveloping a neighborhood that will empower itself to be an attractive and viable living and business community.
SUMMECH’s Rosa Burney Manor project renovated 54 apartments for low and moderate income renters. This project was completed in early 1999.
The apartments are one and two bedroom apartments in six buildings along Cooper Street. Each apartment received substantial renovation, including new roofs, windows, doors, decorative porches and siding. The interior repairs included new electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, security systems, kitchen appliances, carpet, vinyl and cabinets. Each unit also includes ceiling fans and mini-blinds. To enhance the outside of the units, new landscaping, trees, parking lots, decorative and perimeter fencing were added.
Funding for the project totaled $2.3 million, and was provided by the City of Atlanta, Mutual Federal Savings Bank, and the Atlanta Housing Equity Fund. Additional financial assistance was provided by the Enterprise Foundation, Fleet and the Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership.
